Des Hunt

Today one of my FAVOURITE New Zealand authors Des Hunt came to our school and had a chat to the Kauri Team. Des is very interested in science. So when he writes his books there is some science hidden inside. I found it incredible how he can put science into his writing. He taught us the ways of building up tension with the writers. One of those ways is something called Conflict. Conflict be emotion, bullying, loss or something as simple as you dont get any dinner. This conflict is expressed and the writers are hooked in.

I am very lucky to be someone chosen to do a workshop with Des Hunt. He is a very good author!

He has written 22 books!
He first started writing Non-Fiction stories before Fiction
He started writing when he was 32
Before he started being an author, he taught chemistry at 4 schools for 44 years!
He has had a nickname for a while now which is 'Dessy'
Howard Spring (an author) was his inspiration to write his books
